2 Vintage artisan corn husk dolls by Berneil Elmegreen Iowa 1970s detail! braid!

Description

Berneil Elmegreen's mastery of cornhusk dolls is nothing short of artful. These are from the early '70s and still in wonderful condition-- thanks to the artist's construction, which includes an internal form stamped with her name and location in Long Grove, Iowa. I was able to learn she lived 1910-1985, married Arthur in 1931.
Both of these cornhusk dolls have exquisite details, including corn-silk hair and purple husk clothing accents. Both have no facial features, which gives them an elegant feel instead of the frequent folksy-cute look.
The prairie woman doll has a BEAUTIFUL corn-silk braid, hanging out of her purple bonnet down her back. Her clothing features a purple husk apron tied in back over a full skirt, and a shawl that crosses in front and tucks in, like pioneer women wore. Sleeves have a bell shape. Her bonnet is wonderful--purple--but does have a clean split that runs the length of the front edge around her face (See photo looking down on her head.). Holds a bouquet of long-stemmed straw flowers. A few age marks.  8" tall; 2.5" wide.
The girl doll has a purple beautifully tied bonnet bow and sash over her full skirt. Her arms end in perfect little knots for hands under her cape. She has loose corn-silk hair and bangs under her bonnet. A few age marks.  5.5" tall, 1.75" wide.
