Indonesian Hand Made Tiger Head Jungle Golok Parang Machete High Carbon Steel
Handsome Blade -- Excellent Display Piece
Forget the Ray Mears Parang, British Army Golok, and a whole host of other imposters. These are the real parangs / goloks which those products drew inspiration from.
An excellent display piece that will turn heads. A traditional golok (also known as parang), similar to a machete
for hard use in the jungles.
The golok / parang is a Southeast-Asian jungle knife that is well suited to cutting through thick brush and bamboo. The thick blade and forward-balanced centre of mass lends itself well to chopping down green, woody and chunky tree limbs, vines, bamboo. etc. In this respect it outperforms the machete which is more suited for thinner vegetation as found in the Americas where it originated. Having either a primary grind or an edgewise taper, the golok is less likely to jam in green wood than the flat-sided machete.
The Golok performs a myriad of duties from axe work, processing and skinning of game to fine cutting work like making implements out of bamboo for traps etc . It truly is the all-purpose hunting/survival blade you are looking for -- the Swiss Army Knife of the jungle.
The Golok is a common type of machete and you can find different weights and lengths. This example is one of the bigger sizes meant for jungle use. It is still a common sight to see a golok in the hands of Indonesian natives who dwell in, and and obtain their sustenance from the rainforests.
The full-sized Golok Betawi is another traditional Malay Archipelago design that has withstood centuries. This blade shape is also known as Golok Betawi and is the traditional Indonesian design.
This Golok listed is a heavy-duty version, suitable for chopping wood and bamboo. It has a nice weight to it and cuts through hard wood effortlessly. It has a sleek and simple design that you will just love.
NOTE:
Due to the items being hand-made, each piece may vary from the pictures somewhat in terms of dimensions, colour / grain of wood, arrangement of knife and sheath fittings.
These items are made to be used and abused, and less emphasis is placed on aesthetics.
Your item may have imperfections such as slight pitting of the blade surface and / or other metal parts, uneven application of varnish / paint, slight asymmetry, etc. These are all normal variations that are characteristic of the cottage industries that produce them and add to the character and individuality of your blade. The pictures used in this listing are a close representation of the item that you will receive.
Returns will NOT be accepted for the reasons above. If you desire a perfect cookie-cutter item you may want to consider a mass-produced knife instead.
