R GLEASON & SONS SP CENTERPIECE PEDESTAL BOWL WITH REPOUSSE FLORAL DESIGN

We are offering for sale an exquisite, antique, silver plated Centerpiece Pedestal Bowl. It was manufactured by the R. Gleason & Sons silver plating firm from Dorchester, Mass. The firm was originally founded by Rowell Gleason in 1822, as pewter makers. In the 1850’s his sons, Rowell Jr. and Edward entered into the business. The firm became active as electroplaters from 1850 – 1871, when the factory closed. This piece dates from this year range. The Centerpiece Bowl measures 14.75 inches high from handle to handle, 11 inches long on the serving surface, 9inches wide and 5 inches tall. Fruit would look tempting in this piece as would other goodies. The outer rims on the
pedestal base and the basket have a double beaded design. The two open handles are decorated with a single bead design and three flowers growing along a leafy stem. A lovely repousse design of flowers, fruits and vegetables decorates an oval medallion in the middle of the basket. A lovelier piece to decorate a table would be hard to find. The piece is in
